Rich Textures Maximize Small London Apartment Posted: 17 Dec 2015 12:00 PM PST Studio Keir Townsend shared photos and information about Bramham Gardens, a stylish redesign of a small apartment in London’s South Kensington neighborhood. The updated crib, a mere 430 square feet, features an open plan that includes kitchen, dining and living areas, plus a bedroom and a three-quarter bathroom. The project developers tore down all unnecessary walls to make moving around the apartment as easy as possible and to create space for the main living areas. A variety of rich textures and luxurious furnishings in a palette of light neutral tones helps to define the spaces of this small London apartment. The bespoke kitchen cabinetry was designed by Keir Townsend and made to order. The floor has textured ceramic tiles designed to look and feel like wood, providing a continuous flooring material that runs from the kitchen to the living area into the bathroom. Monochromatic hues maximize space in the bedroom. Bangkok Warehouse Goes Green for Terrarium-Inspired Restaurant Posted: 17 Dec 2015 09:00 AM PST Thai design agency Hypothesis was the mastermind behind Vivarium, a Thai-Japanese fusion restaurant in Bangkok. Aiming to inject life and energy into a former warehouse, the design team came up with the concept of a terrarium for the unconventional eatery. A lush “greenscape” of plants cascades from the double-height ceiling. The design theme of this terrarium-inspired restaurant is reflected in its name; Vivarium means “container of life.” To emphasize the building’s industrial characteristics, most of the existing structure was unchanged. The designers kept the original white color in the old space, while the additions were painted with red primer, highlighting the contrast between old and new.
